Policing

Nick chairs the College of Policing, the official body in England and Wales which sets standards, oversees training and holds the evidence base for what works in the police service. His first term began on 1 January 2021 and he was reappointed for a second three-year term which began on 1 January 2024.

In this role, Nick has driven reform of the College to make it more responsive and to focus on enhancing leadership, improving standards and delivering more effective police performance to cut crime and keep people safe.

Nick served as Minister for Policing and Criminal Justice in the Coalition Government from 2010 to 2012, working in both the Home Office and Ministry of Justice, where he drove through reforms to make the police service more accountable.
