MP welcomes Arun's decision to re-consider housing sites

Commenting on the decision last night at a full meeting of Arun District Council to re-consider the allocation of strategic sites for new housing in the district, Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert said:

"I welcome Arun District councillors' decision to re-think proposed sites for new housing.  A new town at Barnham/Eastergate was never a sustainable plan and with the area currently flooded it seems that the penny may finally have dropped.

"I urge councillors also to review whether 580 new houses a year, the number they agreed last night, is sustainable given the infrastructure and environmental constraints in the area, some of which are at last being recognised.

"It remains open to the Council to lower that number if it is unsustainable, and they should now weigh the costs and benefits properly."
