Storrington
Storrington, which is 12 miles south of Horsham, has a population of over 4,500 people.
In the Domesday Book the town was recorded as ‘Estorchestone’, a place well-known for storks.
Storrington has long been known as a trading centre, having been given permission to hold a regular market from 1399. It was, for many years, at the centre of the local rabbit breeding industry.
The town, however, was not only renowned for its trade and industry. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was also the centre for an important artistic community. Several influential writers and musicians, such as Hilaire Beloc, Sir Arnold Bax and Wilfred Meynell either lived or stayed in Storrington.
